Your hook is cast from solid brass and hand finished, so it arrives with its own small variations in tone and texture. Brass is a living material. It will change over time, and how it changes depends on the finish you have chosen and where you hang it.

Know Your Finish

• Gold or Natural Brass: polished bright. It will darken naturally over time. You can polish it back whenever you like, or leave it to age.
• Antique Brass: hand darkened as part of the finish. Do not polish antique pieces. Polishing lifts the darkened detailing and it cannot be restored. Wipe clean only.
• Matte Black: a coated finish. Never polish or use metal cleaner. Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth only.

Routine Cleaning

• Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.
• For anything stubborn, use a little warm soapy water, then dry immediately. Brass should never be left wet.
• Do not use abrasive pads, scourers or harsh chemical cleaners on any finish.

Polishing Gold and Natural Brass

• Use a quality brass polish and a soft cloth, following the product instructions.
• Remove the hook from the wall first where you can, or mask the surface behind it. Brass polish will stain grout, render, limestone and other porous surfaces, and that mark is difficult to remove.
• Buff off all residue and dry thoroughly.
• Polish only as often as you want it bright. There is no maintenance requirement to polish at all.

Poolside and Coastal Use

This is worth knowing before you hang one beside the water.

• Chlorine, salt air, sunscreen and wet towels all speed up how quickly brass darkens. Beside a pool the change can be noticeable within weeks rather than years, and it may darken unevenly where wet towels rest against it.
• This is brass behaving normally, not a fault, and it is the same process that gives aged brass its character.
• If you would rather keep it bright, wipe the hook down with a dry cloth after towels have been hanging on it, and polish gold or natural pieces as needed.
• Under cover and out of direct splash, the change will be much slower.

Mounting and Fixings

• Your hook includes screws suitable for indoor installation.
• For outdoor or poolside installation, swap to stainless steel screws. Standard screws will rust and can leave streaks down the wall beneath the hook.
• Use wall plugs appropriate to your surface, and check the fixings are still firm at the start of each season.

Important Usage Notes

• Designed for towels, robes, hats and light everyday items.
• Not designed to carry body weight. Do not use as a grab rail, handhold or step, and do not allow children to hang or pull on it.
• Each piece is handcrafted, so small variations in tone, texture and finish between hooks are normal and expected.
• Damage resulting from misuse, incorrect installation or inappropriate cleaning will not be covered under the Silux Quality Guarantee.
• Dispose of all packaging thoughtfully and keep out of reach of children.
